I know that  healing work, especially energetic, can bring up issues, memories, and cause detoxification (sometimes severe). And with this chakra therapy I  have been doing, I feel it.

During the week my class and I focused on the throat chakra, I really felt challenged. I felt tired. I felt irritated.  I felt like I didn’t want to talk to anyone. I knew I needed to be in nature, away from the computer, away from the freeway, away from the city.

So on a whim,I booked  a campsite in the Florida Keys, and went on ‘retreat’. I told my family and friends,” I will not be talking on the phone for the next two days, or responding to messages. I am going on retreat. ” My ‘retreat’  was an essential part of my healing.

The Healing Waters of the Florida Keys

So, we were on our way to the Florida Keys. Just me, my son, my dog, and my sweetheart.  As soon as we got to Key Largo, I could really feel the energy change. I started to relax. And about 70 miles south of Key Largo was our campground.  Bahia Honda State Park. Bahia Honda is my favorite place in the Keys. The park is beautiful. There are trails, a nature center, nice bathrooms, and hot showers. The park is  popular, so Reserve early (or check for cancellations). By the way, there are three campgrounds in the park. My favorite campground is called Sandspur..And it has some campsites with amazing ocean views.Me and my dog Sadie:Dogs are Welcome at the Park, on a Leash, and not on the Beach

As soon as we arrived and set up the tents,I felt so good.  The entire weekend was spent relaxing, healing, cleansing. Yoga on the beach, walking on nature trails, long meditations, good food, camping under the stars. The stars were magical….

Sometimes the best therapy, is turning off the phone, getting out of the city, looking up at the stars, and taking a retreat.

We made it to the farm. Siembra Farm in Gainesville Florida. We are camping, working, and visiting our friends who own and run an organic farm. I am in awe. FRESH FOOD! There are trees everywhere. Friends everywhere. Blueberries everywhere. Vegetables everywhere. There are ticks everywhere too. Yesterday while exploring in some thick woods, the ticks really got me. I pulled out about ten.Yuck!! Ticks  love climbing up my pants and burrowing in my inner thighs.. Welcome to summer in Florida… Bugs galore!

BEAUTIFUL GARDEN

Siembra means to sow, to plant, to grow. And I am amazed. This organic family run farm produces so much food.  On our first day here, we helped gather and wash the CSA shares.

Fun with Leafy Greens

CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture.

Gathering bunches of Kale

With a CSA, people pay a very reasonable amount for a weekly boxes of veggies. Whatever grows, is what goes in the box.  Fresh, delicious, organic produce. I honestly have never seen a better CSA.

Me working in the Herb Garden… (The sweet baby lives on the farm)… what a good life. :)

This week people got tons of greens, different types of kale, collards, arugula, eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes, green beans, peppers, basil, herbs, and more. If you live near Gainesville, you should support Siembra farms. Wherever you live, you should find out about CSA’s- Food Revolution!

Cody at the Gainesville Farmers Market…

The Siembra farm folks are the nicest people I know. They help make the world a better place.  ( they have good dance moves too! )

Everyone loves the Farm!

This whole experience is a pretty incredible home school/life  lesson. We are learning to farm and camping out in a magical paradise.

Home Sweet Home

The kids are having a great time. They run around all day…exploring the farm, the woods, and the creek.

The dogs are having a great time.

Springtime Swamp love. Commit to love. Love blossoms everywhere.

Spring is here.  Today is the beginning of the Astrological new year. Sun enters Aries.  Aries is the first sign in the Zodiac. Start fresh. New life and new energy emerge…set your intentions….vibrance is everywhere. Feel the magic.

Love blossoming in a Swamp

We spent the weekend camping, with many of our close friends. We all came together, honoring love, friendship, magic, the power of nature, the changing of the seasons.  Everything was beautiful. There were tents and smiles everywhere, our gypsy village was amazing.  I loved it.   Community.  Family. Sangria.

We hiked and swam in the creek. We saw a couple big alligators. We did yoga. Danced til dawn. Heard the song of the coyote. And the owl. We played music and sang.   I wandered into the woods alone. Deep meditation.   I saw a rattlesnake. It crossed my path. And disappeared. Powerful, beautiful, magical.. Nature.  Love is everywhere in nature.  Nature brings balance.

Today my yoga practice, was powerful.  On all levels.  I dedicated my practice to the cycles of the seasons, Spring-time, healing old wounds, breathing in new life and breathing in new energy.  Slow and deep practice. Eyes closed, wrapped in purple light and floating.   Healing. Spring Time. Renewal.

Let Love Blossom Everywhere.

Welcome Spring!

I love camping.  I love nature. I love spontaneous camping trips.

I complain all the time about living Florida. It is flat.   It is crowded. South Florida is totally overdeveloped with golf courses,  gated communities, shopping centers,  and plastic surgery offices.  A commonly seen bumper sticker reads “Leaving Florida? Take a developer!”  Seriously. It is like every patch of wildspace down here was seen only as potential profit, and then  flattened.  “Why?” you may ask.  ”Because we need another store.”  Grrr.

So, I complain about Florida. It’s true.  I do.  But I shouldn’t.     I should share the beautiful spots I know of, so others can experience the magic for themselves.

“Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect.” ~ Chief Seattle

Beautiful, magical Florida

I woke up Saturday morning and got a text from a friend “room in the car if you want to go on a last minute camping trip.”    ”Umm duh”. I thought. I wrote back   “Yes. of course!!!!”  So in less than thirty minutes, we were packed and heading out the door.  To a place called Fisheating Creek.

Fisheating Creek

Interestingly, The last time I went to Fisheating Creek was exactly a year before, on another spontaneous camping trip. That was a big EarthFirst! campout. Which was inspiring and fun.  Tons of workshops and people,  music and laughter.  But this time there were only a few of us.  This time was about being quiet, feeling nature, and healing.

our campsite

We arrived and set up our tents. My son and a friend went to collect firewood.  So, I was alone.  I decided to go explore.  I walked slowly through an oak forest.  I saw the most beautiful tree. Without even thinking, I floated towards the tree, sat down and began to meditate.

Healing under an oak tree

 There was magic happening.

I thanked the tree with a hug and a kiss and went back to our campsite.  A little while later we all went exploring.  We waded across the shallow part of the creek and picked a few wild oranges. They were super sour but fun to eat.

Magical Mother Tree

We saw so many beautiful cypress trees.

The Giving Tree

Cypress trees are beyond words.  But “Healer” is one word that comes to mind.

The night was crisp.  We had a big fire and ate our cans of beans “”hobo” style.   We talked and told stories.  Including a “ not so spooky” ghost story. There were speechless moments as we stared up at the night sky.  We stayed warm by the fire. And listened to the song of the coyotes nearby.

As the fire slowly burnt out and our eye lids grew heavy, we made our way to our tents. It was cold.  I shivered until sleep arrived.  The next morning I woke early, built another fire (to defrost), did some restorative yoga and explored the woods.  Then we all had breakfast,  got in the canoe and paddled down the creek.

Everyone was having fun!

There were shallow areas where one person (thanks Cara!) had to get out and pull us into deeper water.

We're Stuck! Hahaha.

It was a peaceful adventure. We saw hawks, osprey, egrets, and a few turtles. We saw deer tracks, panther tracks too.  But it was too cold for the Alligators… :)

Explore, breathe, heal

Florida,  I really do love you, the real you.  Always.
