Marlin Wagner with Burt Reynolds Alfred Clayton Photography

On February 9th, 2013, my son, Marlin Wagner, sang to Burt Reynolds.

The Server and the Star...

The Server and the Star…

My son is a talented performer, it is true. But, we were still completely shocked when asked if Marlin would perform for Burt Reynolds!

The event was called the Diamond Jubilee.  It was a fancy Gala that honored both the Lake Worth Playhouse and the talented Burt Reynolds. Burt Reynolds performed and directed at the playhouse when he was very young and starting his acting career.

I offered to work as a volunteer server, so I could both see the performance, and help out my Lake Worth Playhouse family. Let me tell you, serving is exhausting. And I am not sure the clothes are really my style (haha). But it was worth it!!!!

The Server and The Star...

The Server and The Young Star…

The night began with a silent auction, followed by dinner, performances, and dancing.. When Burt Reynolds arrived, he saw me working as a server, but he stopped, he smiled at me, grabbed a hold of my hand, and said “Hi, how are you?”. I was flattered and completely surprised that  he would take the time to stop and say hi to me.. I certainly thought that would be the end of my encounter with the Bandit.. But, I was wrong.

As the evening progressed and after dinner was served, I had a chance to talk to him for a few minutes. I told him my son was going to sing for him. He was so kind. I kissed his cheek.

The performances began, and they were incredible. Talented and beautiful performers. Performers I feel blessed to know.

My son Marlin, was the last to perform. I stood in the corner, a little nervous. With confidence, Marlin walked onto the stage, with microphone in hand, and he sang  Cruella Deville from 101 Dalmatians  He sang beautifully. Everyone smiled, including Burt.

When the song and the applause finished, Burt stood up, put his arm around my son, and talked to him. He asked Marlin how old he was, Marlin said “13″ . Burt Reynolds replied “I have underwear older than that.” Everyone laughed. He told my son he was handsome, and talented, he asked Marlin if acting was really what he wanted to do. My son said “Yes.” Burt got a little choked up and he gave my son some advice “Don’t ever, ever, let anyone talk you out of it.”  It was advice that resonated with everyone in the room. We were all emotional.

It was a beautiful night that will stay with us for a very long time.I am so happy for my son, and I am full of gratitude… ~Yogini Tiff

Thank you so much to the Lake Worth Playhouse. And thank you so much to Burt Reynolds.

I can’t believe it has been a month since I have posted. I think about writing a lot, and I have so many stories I want write about.. But I have had some sort of writers block…hmm..

Anyways, I am going to try to give it a shot, and share our latest adventures here in Atlantis…

Sunset, Santa Maria, Azores

Living in the Azores is like a dream. Winter is here. It is very different from summer. It rains a lot. The wind is strong. The ocean is raw, alive and roaring. .

Ocean Energy

I spend so much time at the ocean. Sometimes I take my ukulele.. sometimes I meditate. Sometimes I just walk.I breathe. So healing.

In the mornings, I wake up, drink coffee, and eat bread (The Portuguese make the best bread in the world)..I laugh with my cousin. I look out at the ocean and up into the hills. Valverde (the green valley) is a beautiful place to live. The energy is so different here. I move slowly. I clean up puppy poop. My son does his school online through Florida Virtual School.. But we all know his real schooling is through life. This experience. We are living in a new country, learning a new language, a new culture. New and old family. Our Roots. We speak using a combination of  Portuguese and English. We learn. We grow.

Hiking

Santa Maria is a small island. 5000 people. From the highest point on the island, called Pico Alto, one can see the entire island. All the way around. And it is beautiful. The ocean seems to go on forever.

paradise

The only real traffic here is from cows. Very different from life in South Florida.

Afterschool Traffic…

This island doesn’t  have an operating movie theater. It also doesn’t have a McDonald’s. No Wal-Mart. No freeways. No crime.. (well, very little). People work hard and help each other. We celebrate. We  hang a lot of clothes  and we eat a lot of potatoes. Our family always makes sure we are stocked with crates of them….onions too.. People really depend on their gardens.

Dinner in Valverde

With winter here, It gets dark earlier. Earlier hikes. More layers of clothes. More time indoors. Dinner parties.  Baptisms. Birthdays. Festivals. Fado music. Beekeeping. Herbs. We go dancing at a little dance club in Sao Pedro called Chamine.. We  play guitar and sing. We drink wine. A lot. We eat a lot of chestnuts. We indulge and laugh. We do meditation and Reiki.. We all feel change. I attuned two powerful women into Reiki practitioners.. They were already healers.. BUT NOW…

Three Reiki Practitioners connected by Azores Roots..

This journey has also brought me the magic of romance. Heart Chakra is open..Romance is alive in the Azores…Love comes to us in many forms…

Portuguese love song

Winter is here.  The water is cold. We hike. We sing. We liveThis is yoga .. Being in the present moment.

Love is Love

Enjoy the sunstreaks..~tiff

Today we went to John Macarthur State park.  It is one of my favorite places in all of South Florida. We have a membership there (so we get free kayak rentals!).There is a wonderful educational center, some pretty (but short)walking trails, good snorkeling, and lots of events (like yoga, children’s science camps, and bluegrass music). The whole park is absolutely beautiful. The most impressive part of the park, is on the intracoastal side- there are tiny islands all over. It is a kayakers paradise.   My favorite island is Munyon Island. Today we spent hours kayaking, swimming, hiking, learning, and we had a nice picnic. An awesome day!

We learned so much!

Homeschooling is Fun!

The Educational/Visitor Center is very impressive...and educational!

We learned about a sweet Loggerhead turtle that is being rehabilitated...

Jumping for joy!

And we made it home right before a crazy thunderstorm! Cheers to good days!  Be Well.
